Chef Andy’s Background

Andy Fabian graduated from Schoolcraft College in 1998, studying Culinary Arts in their acclaimed program.

He studied under Certified Master Chef Mike Russel (currently the Executive Chef for one of the Detroit casinos) and Certified Chef Jeff Gabrial.

Andy also polished his skills when he worked with Chef Luciano DelSignore current owner of Baccos which was named Hour Magazines Restaurant of the Year in 2006.

Before opening The Van Camp House in June 2006, Andy served as a firefighter for 25 years with Livonia, MI and then Port Huron, MI.

His dream of returning to his true passion encouraged him to begin his family run business that is open all year in the Village of Port Sanilac.

The menu changes on a weekly basis and always features the freshest product available.

It is Andy’s goal to provide the ultimate dining experience for his customers through the visual presentation, the wonderful aromas, and delicious tastes that is part of every meal at The Van Camp House.

About Our Customers

The Corvette Club customers.

In a nutshell, we try to execute the words of wisdom from Walt Disney: “Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.”

Customer service in a fine dining restaurant requires much more attention to detail than in casual dining or fast food establishments. Fine dining service goes far beyond taking an order and delivering food.

For example, our dining services include:

  • Escorting diners to the table, holding the chair for women
  • Crumbing the table in between courses
  • Replacing linen napkins if a diner leaves the table
  • Explaining menu items without notes

All of the details that are expected of a fine dining server require that they be rigorously trained. They should be able to answer any and all questions customers may have about a menu item or wine. They should also be ready to make menu recommendations, if asked. No detail is ever too small to pay attention to in fine dining.

The Van Camp Restaurant staff knows that fresh made food is what brings people in the door, but it’s customer service excellence that keeps them coming back. Our goal is not only to know the customer’s name, but know their favorite dish. Our staff is trained to treat customers like family and make them feel at home.
